In Haryana, a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher or lecturer in any of the schools recognized by the Department of School Education, Haryana and affiliated to the Board of School Education, Haryana has to qualify the Haryana Teacher’s Eligibility Test (HTET). Qualifying in the HTET is made mandatory to ensure that persons recruited as teachers possess the essential aptitude and ability to meet the challenges of teaching at Elementary, Secondary and Senior Secondary levels. This test is to be conducted by Board of School Education, Haryana. Some important points about HTET are as follows:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Category- I (Teachers for Classes I to V):
Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known)
OR
Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 45% marks and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known), in accordance with NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations 2002
OR
Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4-year B.El.Ed.
OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)
OR
B.A. / B.Sc. / B.Com and two year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known)
Note 1: A candidate with BA/B.Sc./B.Com (50% marks) and B.Ed. qualification or with B.A./B.Sc./B.Com (45% marks) and 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed.), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations issued from time to time in this regard, shall also be eligible for appointment to Class I to V up to 01/01/2012, provided, after appointment he/she undergoes, an NCTE recognized 6-month Special program in Elementary Education.
Note 2: Candidate must have studied Hindi in Matric or Sr. Secondary / Graduation / Post Graduation.
Note 3: SC and Differently-abled Candidates are allowed a relaxation of 5% in minimum qualifying at BA/B.Sc./ B.Com / 10+2 level.
Category-II (Teachers for classes VI to VIII):
BA/ B.Sc/ B.Com and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known)
OR
BA/ B.Sc/ B.Com with at least 50% marks and 1-year B.Ed.
OR
BA/ B.Sc/ B.Com with at least 45% marks and 1-year B.Ed. in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations issued from time to time in this regard
OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4-year B.El.Ed.
OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4-year B.A.Ed./ B.Sc.Ed.
OR
BA/ B.Sc/ B.Com with at least 50% marks and 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education)
For Home Science Only: B.Sc. Home Science with B.T./B.Ed. from a recognized University OR B.A. with Home Science as one of the elective subjects and B.T./B.Ed. from a recognized University.
For Demonstrator in Physical Education only: Graduate with Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed.) or its equivalent.
Note 1: Candidate must have studied Hindi in Matric or Sr. Secondary / Graduation / Post Graduation.

Category-III (Lecturers for classes IX to XII):
For Lecturer in English, Hindi, Economics, Geography, Sanskrit, Home Science, Physics, Commerce, Sociology, Psychology, Physical Education, Punjabi, Urdu:-
Post Graduate Degree in the concerned subject with at least 50% marks from a recognized university.
For Lecturer in History: MA History/ Ancient Indian History/ Culture and Archaeology with Minimum 50% marks from recognized university
For Lecturer in Political Science: MA Political Science/ Public Administration with minimum 50% marks from a recognized university.
For Lecturer in Biology: M.Sc. Biology/ Zoology/ Botany/ Bio-Science/ Bio-Chemistry/ Genetics/ Micro-Biology/ Plant Physiology/ Bio-Technology with minimum 50% marks from a recognized university.
For Lecturer in Chemistry: M.Sc. Chemistry/ Bio-Chemistry with minimum 50% marks from a recognized university.
For Lecturer in Mathematics: MA/M.Sc. Mathematics/ Statistics with minimum 50% marks from a recognized university.
SCHEME/STRUCTURE AND CONTENT OF EXAM:
There shall be only one paper in each category. All questions will be 150 Multiple Choice Questions with Four choices each carrying one mark. Duration of exam will be 1.30 hours. There will be NO NEGATIVE MARKING at all. Qualifying marks are set to be 60%.
Structure and Content for Category- I Classes 1-5:

(iii) Language II (English) 30 MCQs 30 Marks

Structure and Content for Category- I Classes 6-8:
(i) Child Development & Pedagogy (compulsory) 30 MCQs 30 Marks
(ii) Language I (Hindi)(Compulsory) 30 MCQs 30 Marks
(iii) Language II(English) (Compulsory) 30 MCQs 30 Marks
(iv) A) Maths/Science Teacher: Mathematics and Science 60 MCQs 60 Marks
B) For Social Studies teacher: Social Studies 60 MCQs 60 Marks
For any other teacher- either (iv) (A) or (iv) (B) 60 MCQs 60 Marks
Structure and Content for Category- I Classes 6-8:
(i) Child Development & Pedagogy (compulsory) 30 MCQs 30 Marks
(ii) Language I (Hindi)(Compulsory) 30 MCQs 30 Marks
(iii) Language II(English) (Compulsory) 30 MCQs 30 Marks
(iv) Subject specific 60 MCQs 60 Marks
NATURE AND STANDARD OF QUESTIONS:
· The test items on Child Development and Pedagogy will focus on educational psychology of teaching and learning relevant to the age group of 6-11 years for Categroy-I, 11-14 years for Category-II and 14-17 years for Category-III.
· The Test items for Language – I (Hindi) will focus on the proficiencies related to the medium of instruction.
· The Language II (English) will focus on the elements of language, communication and comprehension abilities.
· The test items in Teaching subjects shall be distributed over different divisions of the syllabus of the concerned subject prescribed for relavent classes (Classes I-V OR VI-VIII OR IX-XII) by the Scool Education Department, Govt. of Haryana.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
1. Candidates studying in final year of the qualifying professional degree which ever is required for eligibility as mentioned in these guidelines/instructions are also eligible to apply for the test. Their candidature by the appointing authority, however, shall be considered only when they have acquired the minimum qualification.
2. The Validity Period of HTET qualifying certificate for appointment will be five years from the date of passing HTET.
3. Validity of already qualified STET certificate of all the above said three categories will continue for a period of five years (from the date of passing on the pattern of present HTET), instead of unspecified period as per earlier notification dated 24th July 2009.
